Anna Cleary

There for the Taking

28th January - 25th February 2005

A Selection of Photos

This is Anna’s first solo exhibition, a collection of photographs she defines as ‘images that are there for the taking’. Captured shapes and forms that create playful compositions within a frame, everyday beauty, a beauty that if you move too fast you may miss, things that we know are there but take for granted. This exhibition is your invitation to enjoy her natural and architectural compositions that aim to relax the mind, sooth the eye and stimulate the imagination.

After graduating in illustration Anna developed a career in graphic design and is currently one half of the Bristol based design partnership ‘Taste’. Anna’s father, who is a photographer, passed on to her the importance of looking, her work reflects a continued interest in natural composition, found in the details of our environment. Anna’s artistic development has been informed by her work as a graphic designer, but even earlier, when painting, she found that composition was of greater interest than the textural quality of the medium. In recent years she has enjoyed the freedom of digital photography allowing her to quickly see the success or failure of an idea.

This exhibition is a collection of her digital photographs that are found compositions, nothing has been added and nothing taken away. For these images she has used the computer strictly as a dark room, no Photoshop filters! When working as a graphic designer she is often constrained by the clients requirements, these images are free from constraints. No brief, no deadline, no client approval needed.
