George Sander-Jackson A MINERS TALE October 5th - November 7th 'The work in this exhibition combines a collection of mono prints with an animation about an asylum seeker from Zimbabwe. The prints record a day in the life of a coal miner in the middle of the 20th century. Inking up a plastic coated wooden block, & wiping away the hightlights with a cloth or tissue to create the white areas produces the image. I enjoy working in this way & used the same technique, combined with a stop-motion camera, to make the animation. I like to use tone to create atmosphere in which strong narratives can unfold.'

The images derive mainly from travel in South East Asia, combining with more intimate and personal subjects. I have sought to convey the impact of outdoor life as narrative carved into the face. It is the perception and experience of emotion allied to narratives of everyday life that are at the heart of what fascinates me. I feel that for art to have power and impact it must engage with the viewer, evoke an emotive reaction. For doing just this I greatly admire the work of Kathe Kollwitz. In terms of aims and ambition my desire is aptly expressed by her words -"as long as I can work, I want to have an effect with my art".'
