Liz Wright - Paintings

March 31st - April 28th 2006

PROFILE OF THE ARTIST

Liz Wright studied for a year at St. Martins School of Art in London, and then for three years at the West of England College of Art in Bristol, with David Inshaw, RA and Alfred Stockham, RWA. She graduated in 1972 with a degree in Fine Art, and after working in various jobs in London for 6 years moved to Bruton in Somerset to paint full-time. This was the beginning of her long career of many one person and mixed exhibitions. She has travelled widely, including Russia, Europe, Egypt, Australia and the USA. Her travels have been a source of inspiration and her aim is to capture a part of the landscape, mythology, culture and essence of a place. When living in or near London she painted the parks, Hyde Park, the Serpentine, Battersea Park, Richmond Park and the Thames near Teddington and Kingston. Many of her painting have been reproduced as greetings cards, book, c.d. and magazine covers, also illustrating articles in the broadsheet newspapers. Liz Wright has over 200 transparencies with the Bridgeman Art Library: (www.bridgeman.co.uk) in London, New York, Paris and Berlin, who licence her copyright through secondary rights. She is now living on Portland, Dorset where she has a studio and is painting the local area as well as the surrounding countryside. Liz says of her present work 'Portland is a very special place to live, extreme in its landscaspe and light. The lack of trees has been a source of disappointment but I am compensated by the magnificence of the Chesil Beach, with its pebbles and the ever changing sea.'

Liz Wright cards for sale in the reception area of the Folk House.
