Have you always wanted to make your own clothes and accessories and felt a little overwhelmed by bought patterns, dont know where to start? Looking for a great first garment project? Come to this fun workshop and learn how to follow a pattern, have all those symbols explained and create your very own reversible apron in a day. This course aims to give you the confidence to start buying patterns and begin making your own projects, and show you how to follow instructions to create neatly finished items that you can be proud of; as well as offering lots of handy tips and tricks. Some previous sewing experience is required- you dont need to have made anything from a pattern before, but you do need to know how to thread up your machine and sew in a straight line.
Students enrolling on this course should have some sewing experience already. They should be able to thread a sewing machine, understand the basics of how they work and be able to sew in a straight line. If you think it might be too advanced please take a look at our Sewing for Beginners course. Please bring with you: 1.25m of a 115cm width medium weight patterned/ printed cotton for the main body of the apron front and pocket. 1.25m of a 115cm width medium weight patterned/ printed cotton for the apron back 50cm of a 115cm width medium weight patterned/ printed cotton for the waist ties and neck loop You can use the same fabric for the whole apron, but it will look more interesting with at least two different fabrics, either for just the ties or for one side. Threads to match your fabric choices Ruler Dressmaking scissors Paper scissors Pins Assorted sewing needles Tailors chalk/pencil Seam ripper (unpicker) Tape Measure Pin cushion (optional) Trimming scissors (optional)
Please note: All 10, 8 and 12 week courses have a half term break in the middle. For term dates please visit our ‘Contact us’ page. We are not open on bank holiday Monday’s and any class that falls on these days will be made up at the end of term.
Please see full terms and conditions for more information.
If a course has already started please call the office as it may be possible to join after the start date. This may only be possible if the course is not already full, if it is not disruptive for the other students and you are aware that you have missed a percentage of the course and the tutor will not have time to catch you up. This will be at discretion of the Folk House. We run our courses termly, so it might be best to start at the beginning of the course.
