Description

Circle dance is a mix of traditional dances from all over the world and new dances which have been choreographed in modern times. The circle formations which sometimes weave or spiral around the room encourage a sense of community. After witnessing round dances in Europe during the 1950s, Bernard Wosien brought them to a community in Scotland and was inspired to create his own. These were then introduced to the wider community where other teachers have created more, and were called circle dances. Such dances have adapted over time whilst being taught in Britain and so are not traditional folk dances. However, by dancing them we participate in a living dance movement which can include all members of the community.
