This is an online course. Please check material lists section below for extra details.
Join performing poet and novelist Stefan Mohamed for a fun, relaxed exploration of poetry and its creative and mental benefits. Find your poetic voice, workshop material and experiment with performance ideas in a low pressure environment tailored towards those who may be interested in poetry but do not yet feel confident taking to the stage. Enjoy constructive tutor and peer feedback on your work, experiment with translating a page poem to the stage, play around with different styles and share as much - or as little! - as you feel comfortable. The aim of this course is to help you find a place for poetry in your life, perhaps as an emotional outlet, perhaps as a new craft to hone and develop, perhaps just as a relaxing hobby. Stefan Mohamed graduated from Kingston University in 2010 with a first class degree in creative writing. He has been writing poetry in some form or another for most of his life, and has been performing his work in Bristol and beyond since 2012. A collection of his spoken word pieces, PANIC!, was published by Burning Eye Books in 2016.
The tutor will email you an electronic link to your class in advance of the class. This will be sent to you separately to the booking confirmation.
Students only need writing materials - ideally they would all write their pieces on the computer so they can be emailed around to the group or you can take photos of your notes if they are legible. The tutor will send additional material before and after each class, most likely via email - writing exercises, reading recommendations and so on. Please make sure you have an internet connection, and Zoom on your computer or Tablet. You will receive an email directly from the tutor with a link to attend the meeting ahead of your class. Please ensure you book with your current email address.
Please note: All 10, and 12 week courses have a half term break in the middle. For term dates please visit our ‘Contact us’ page. We are not open on bank holiday Monday’s and any class that falls on these days will be made up at the end of term.

Latecomer
If a course has already started please call the office as it may be possible to join after the start date. This may only be possible if the course is not already full, if it is not disruptive for the other students and you are aware that you have missed a percentage of the course and the tutor will not have time to catch you up. This will be at discretion of the Folk House. We run our courses termly, so it might be best to start at the beginning of the course.
