Come and learn how to carve medieval designs in oak with a skilled and experienced professional woodcarver and teacher. Perhaps a dragon or a green man, green woman or even a green animal!
Our tutor Alistair will guide you through the process of carving in wood using traditional gouges and chisels. This course is suitable for any skill level, from absolute beginners to those with some experience.
All tools and a block of oak measuring 200 x 170 x 20mm (roughly 7.75 x 6.75 in x 0.75 inches) will be supplied, or feel free to bring your own special piece of timber if you prefer.
Example designs will be available to use or come with your own and Alistair can advise you on adapting them for carving.

Latecomer
If a course has already started, please call the office as it may be possible to join after the start date. This may only be possible if the course is not already full, if it is not disruptive for the other students and you are aware that you have missed a percentage of the course and the tutor will not have time to catch you up. This will be at discretion of the Folk House. We run our courses termly, so it might be best to start at the beginning of the course.
