The Darkroom

The Bristol Folk House has a purpose-built wet-based photography facility, which is available to both darkroom members and general users. The darkroom also offers a programme of exciting traditional photography courses and workshops throughout the year.


Becoming a darkroom member grants you access to a creative photography space in the city centre. Members enjoy greater flexibility and benefits:

Darkroom Facilities

  • - 7 black and white enlargers 35mm/ medium/ large format.
  • - Black and white film development facilities.
  • - Print finishing facilities.
  • - Technical support and all chemicals to enable you to process and print.
  • NOTE: You will need to bring your own photographic paper.
  • We do have a small supply of photographic paper which can be purchased at the time of your booking, we also have a supply of negative sleeves for 35mm & 120mm.

  • Session Fees
  • - £5 an hour for Members.
  • - £7 an hour for Non-Members.
  • Membership Fees
  • - £30 for 6 months
  • - £40 for 12 months
  • NOTE: We advise booking sessions in advance to ensure access to the equipment.

    All darkroom users share the workspace and must use the enlarger they have booked.
