Tutor: Bill Guilding
Spend a day painting or drawing directly from a model. There'll be just one pose, with the model nude and in colourful surroundings. All paint-types welcome - pastels, crayons, charcoal & pencils too - but for this one-off workshop it is best to use a medium you are familiar with. Some experience of drawing from life is recommended.
Come with your usual paints or drawing materials. Please note Burnt Sienna is useful for painting all flesh tones. If you are unsure about other colours and brushes, you may refer to the materials list for the Painting in Oils and Acrylics courses listed online. If you use acrylics, it'll be fine, for this course, to use acrylic sketching paper (min. 250gsm), water-colour paper (min. 250gsm), or wall-lining paper (the thicker the better) or card-board. If you use watercolour, thick cartridge paper is fine if stretched. Or heavy-duty (300gsm) water-colour paper.. - If you use pastels, use a rough coloured paper, eg. sugar paper or specialist pastel-paper. - If you use oil paint, oil sketching paper is fine or a canvas-board. Alternatively, oil & acrylic painters might like to prime some cardboard or MDF beforehand. - Paper size: I suggest A3 size minimum, and at least A2 if you like painting boldly and loosely. Due to COVID19 please make sure you bring everything required on the materials list as equipment will not be able to be shared. The tutor may provide some materials for your course or workshop which will be distributed following our guidelines. If you have any questions, please get in touch. This term we are going to reduce lending art-equipment to a minimum, so please be sure to bring everything on the materials list, including sticky-tape or bull-dog clips, a pencil-sharpener and an eraser. Painters: this term please bring your own jar for turps or water, a palette of some kind and an apron or old shirt.
Please note: All 10, and 12 week courses have a half term break in the middle. For term dates please visit our ‘Contact us’ page. We are not open on bank holiday Monday’s and any class that falls on these days will be made up at the end of term.
Please see full terms and conditions for more information.
If a course has already started please call the office as it may be possible to join after the start date. This may only be possible if the course is not already full, if it is not disruptive for the other students and you are aware that you have missed a percentage of the course and the tutor will not have time to catch you up. This will be at discretion of the Folk House. We run our courses termly, so it might be best to start at the beginning of the course.
