Spend a day drawing or painting the faces of 2 live models: a man and a woman, 2 ½ hours each. You also have the option of spending the whole 5 hours on one portrait, using photographs of the morning sitter in the afternoon. You may use any medium you are familiar with, and you’ll get plenty of guidance.
If you are new to portraiture, please bring the following to the workshop:
Pencils (HB)
Rubber
A3 or A2 paper
Charcoal
Otherwise bring whatever materials you are used to using. If you intend to paint in oils, bring low-odour thinners (NOT turps or white spirit).
This term we are going to reduce lending art-equipment to a minimum, so please be sure to bring everything on the materials list, including sticky-tape or bull-dog clips, a pencil-sharpener and an eraser. Painters: this term please bring your own jar for turps or water, a palette of some kind and an apron or old shirt.
Please note: All 10, and 12 week courses have a half term break in the middle. For term dates please visit our ‘Contact us’ page. We are not open on bank holiday Monday’s and any class that falls on these days will be made up at the end of term.

Latecomer
If a course has already started, please call the office as it may be possible to join after the start date. This may only be possible if the course is not already full, if it is not disruptive for the other students and you are aware that you have missed a percentage of the course and the tutor will not have time to catch you up. This will be at discretion of the Folk House. We run our courses termly, so it might be best to start at the beginning of the course.
