Model one or two A4-ish sized ceramic wall plaques with a slightly raised surface using terracotta clay. You might base your designs on sketches or photos, but feel free to copy an image from the Internet, even if it is not of a sculpture. Have fun modelling anything from a classical nude to a portrait of your pet, and remember,
there is no such thing as I'm not creative
Here are some suggestions for preparation, but you may attend without any preparation whatsoever.
Consider googling low relief sculpture image to see examples of bas or low relief plaques, but do not feel daunted when you see a Greek or Roman frieze! Then think about what you might do with your plaque, where it will
hang, etc. Please find, create or print (preferably to actual finished size of one or two A4 (or thereabouts) one or two plans. They can, for example, be straight copies of a painting, the front of your house or a printed fabric. Please avoid something too complex like a panoramic view of London.
Please bring your own apron and you are welcome to bring your own tools.
Please note: All 10, and 12 week courses have a half term break in the middle. For term dates please visit our Contact us page. We are not open on bank holiday Mondays and any class that falls on these days will be made up at the end of term.

Latecomer
If a course has already started, please call the office as it may be possible to join after the start date. This may only be possible if the course is not already full, if it is not disruptive for the other students and you are aware that you have missed a percentage of the course and the tutor will not have time to catch you up. This will be at discretion of the Folk House. We run our courses termly, so it might be best to start at the beginning of the course.
