Courses description

In this experimental workshop you will print using developers you have mixed yourself from the raw chemicals, and learn about the actions of the constituents, including a developer that enables multicontrast printing on any paper, without filters, and 'caffenol'. At one time many darkroom users mixed their own developers, but it is becoming a bit of a lost art now, and this workshop aims to introduce you to it's potential in an experimental and practical format. 'Beer's' is a two-part developer which can be mixed in varying proportions to enable printing at different contrasts on graded or multigrade paper without the use of filters. 'Caffenol', made from instant coffee, has caught on recently as an easy to make developer using household chemicals. We will also make & use some sepia toner from raw chemicals
