Opening Safely - COVID19 Update

Added: Friday 27 March 2020

Welcoming you back to the Bristol Folk House

We are looking forward to opening our doors again in September, we have missed our students, tutors and visitors and we know you are keen to learn face to face again.

We have been working very hard over the Summer to make sure we are ready to open our doors safely.

We have followed guidelines closing and we will be adapting as we go.

We have put some new rules in place, and we would really appreciate it if you could do your part to follow them to keep yourself and others safe.

If you are not ready to return to face to face classes, we have an online programme which you can find on our courses page (search for ‘online’ under venue).

What are we doing

Following guidance from Public Health England and the Local Government, we have put new measures and procedures in place to keep you and our staff safe.

Hygiene

We have added hand sanitising stations throughout the building, and we will be encouraging everyone entering to wash/sanitise their hands.  Sanitising wipes will also be placed in all classrooms so students can wipe down their workspace before and after use.

Cleaning

We have stepped up our cleaning protocol, the entire building will be cleaned several times a day. Classrooms will be cleaned after every class and equipment will be sanitized between use. We have added cleaning stations throughout the building for your convenience.

Social distancing

Clear signage will be placed throughout the building to show you which direction to walk and which side of the walkway to keep. We have created a give way system in the corridors to allow people to move safely throughout the building. All classrooms have been laid out to adhere to social distancing guidelines. Class numbers will remain low this winter to allow students to continue to social distance.

Changes to classes

We have cut class numbers to adhere to social distancing guidelines and all classes have been adapted to allow tutors to reflect social distance and cleaning requirements. Windows and doors will be left open to allow fresh air to circulate throughout the classroom. We suggest bringing a warm layer to wear in colder months.

Café

Our cafe will be open as normal from the 13th of September. Please be mindful of other people when moving around and queueing.

Toilets

All toilets will be unisex, please use both men and women’s toilets to avoid queues. There will only be 2 people allowed in the toilets at one time (our men’s urinals will not be in use).

NHS Covid Status

We will be doing regular bio weekly Lateral Flow testing with staff and tutors.

What can you do

Stay home if you are unwell

You must not come to the Bristol Folk House if you or anyone in your household has had COVID19 symptoms or someone you have come into contact with has tested positive.

Arrival and Departure

Please give way to those arriving from Park Street, where possible please arrive at the Park Street entrance and leave via the rear on Culver Street.

Please go straight to the classroom unless visiting the café or reception. Please arrive no earlier than 5 minutes before your class. If you are early, please wait in the courtyard. When your class has finished please leave as soon as you can.

Hand sanitizing

Upon arrival please use one of the hand-sanitizing stations.

Social distancing

Please stay at least 2 metres apart from others and follow social distancing signage throughout the building.

Face coverings

Although it is no longer mandatory to wear a face covering, we would like to encourage those entering the building to wear their face covering. Particularly in busy areas like reception, toilets, corridors and cafe. Not only to help reduce the spread of COVID and seasonal colds and flu during the winter months but to keep our staff safe, and avoid us having close due to mass self-isolation.

Toilets

All toilets will be unisex, there will only be 2 people allowed in the toilets at one time (our men’s urinals will not be in use).

Water

Please bring a full water bottle to fill up from the tap in the courtyard.

Material Lists

Please check material lists careful as we will be asking students to bring equipment with them to avoid sharing (for example yoga mats and aprons).

Enrolments

Where possible please enrol online or by phone. If you are paying in person, please use a credit card.

Communication

We will be in touch prior to the start date, giving you further guidance about our COVID policies.
