16mm Clockwork Cameras with Low-Toxic Reversal Bucket Processing, and Expanded Film Techniques

With the prevalence of digital video in our everyday lives, analogue formats have seen a resurgence in popularity as filmmakers and audiences are drawn back to the tactile, material realm. Join award-winning filmmakers Edd Carr and Saul Pankhurst for a two-day workshop learning the fundamentals of 16mm clockwork cameras, including the popular Bolex, and how to develop the film as a positive using bucket processing methods, and project the film at home.

Across the two sessions, participants will learn: loading vintage 16mm cameras, shooting the cameras and metering for various lighting conditions, developing the film as positive in plant-powered homemade developers via bucket processing, as well as splicing and projecting the film for digitisation. Edd and Saul will also touch on expanded techniques, such as masking, scratch film techniques, and cyanotype on 16mm.
