Join us for an afternoon in the garden and darkroom, thinking and making through histories of colour photography for a more just colour photographic future. During this session, you will learn the gum diazo method; a low-toxicity gum printing process that uses diazo in place of dichromate.

Combining historical photographic and contemporary screen printing techniques to produce analogue colour photographic images, participants will experiment and play with a variety of plant-based pigments (e.g. woad, madder, weld) while learning about the use of colour separation to produce full-colour vegetal prints from black and white film negatives.

The session includes group tuition, individual and collective making, alongside opportunities for 1:1 troubleshooting. A photographic negative will be provided; attendees are also encouraged to bring their own plant matter, photographic films, and other translucent objects for use throughout.

This session is offered as a standalone and companion to Plant-Based Photographic Colour Theory 1.

When: Friday 5th September, 2.00 - 5.00pm.

Where: Bristol Folk House Darkroom, 40a Park St, Bristol BS1 5JG.

Teachers: Matthew Beach
