Martina grew up bilingually with a German mother who moved to North Wales before she was born. Growing up in a house where German was spoken regularly, Martina picked up languages quickly and eventually took a degree in French and German - also spending two years in both countries.
After finishing her studies, Martina spent a year in Switzerland and then completed a PGCE to teach French and German. She then moved to Germany for four years to train to become a Special Needs teacher, which she continued as a profession in South Africa.
Martina returned to Bristol just over ten years ago and, after having a family, returned to work part-time, teaching young children at the German Saturday School. She started working for the Folk House in September 2013.
