I am a Bristol based illustrator creating work to uplift and energise. I love working with flat uninterrupted colour and shapes, the kind that can be made no more decisively than with scissors and paper! There is a special joy to illustrating with paper cut-outs: not only can we break things down to simpler forms, we can also play around with our composition before we commit to sticking it down.
Much of my inspiration comes from Japan, where seasons and the joys associated with them are honoured in daily life as well as in art, poetry, and animation. The un-filtered nature of animals and children is similarly delightful, and I love a scenic vista.
Being a professional illustrator, producing editorial work for clients and designing and selling illustrated goods is not a path I have always been on (even if I was the 'arty kid' at school). The ADHD brain is known for being pulled in many different directions and mine is no exception. But our taste is developed over time by the journey we have been on. I am a strong believer in continuous learning and that it is never too late to practice art. I have seen how people's confidence and mental health can improve through arts and crafts, especially when done in a group setting. This is the best thing about facilitating workshops. I also love how everyone's interpretation is different, even when faced with the same subject material and the same tools.
