Sophie Rae has been teaching her printmaking workshops at the Folk House since 2014. She shares with the students a fun and unique process, which she uses to create her own work and respond to client briefs, as an Illustrator and printmaker. She developed this technique whilst doing her degree in Illustration at The Arts University Bournemouth. It’s a playful process with quick results, with an emphasis on bold shapes and translucent layers of colour and texture.
Sophie facilitates workshops, teaching her technique at schools, colleges and with the community across a variety of projects. In 2016 she completed a large-scale mural on Church Road. This involved hosting a number of community workshops to gather ideas for the design, in which Sophie used her printmaking skills.
Sophie also spent a memorable month as artist in residence at Chhaap Printmaking studios in India. Following a three-month trip around the country to gather inspiration for a body of work. Sophie sells these prints in exhibitions, local Bristol shops and online.
