Papercutting is subtractive drawing process, using a knife to create negative space, allowing the remaining paper to appear as dynamic lines and shapes. The process of paper cutting deeply is therapeutic and relaxing. Removing shapes to reveal a design takes you into an almost meditative state that sharpens focus and calms the mind. This workshop is designed for you to take some time to create something beautiful that you can then then use to brighten up your home. The technique of paper cutting offers a dramatic aesthetic effect unlike any other. Learn the fundamental techniques and tricks for creating lively artwork with only a craft knife and paper, through this calming process. You will be introduced to the tools and methods used by paper cut artists through the ages and you will learn how to make your own paper cut artwork exploiting the potential of negative and positive space.
The tutor will provide all the materials but if you have a craft knife or any paper you would like to use please bring them along. You will need to transport your work home so please bring something to keep it safe and flat.
Please note: All 10, 8 and 12 week courses have a half term break in the middle. For term dates please visit our ‘Contact us’ page. We are not open on bank holiday Monday’s and any class that falls on these days will be made up at the end of term.
Please see full terms and conditions for more information.
If a course has already started please call the office as it may be possible to join after the start date. This may only be possible if the course is not already full, if it is not disruptive for the other students and you are aware that you have missed a percentage of the course and the tutor will not have time to catch you up. This will be at discretion of the Folk House. We run our courses termly, so it might be best to start at the beginning of the course.
