Learn the 5-string banjo from scratch. Covering all Bluegrass styles including Scruggs, melodic and single-string, (no clawhammer/frailing) your teacher will get you plucking right away and help you master the basics of these popular banjo styles. You will learn many bluegrass banjo standards, and explore accompanying others, composing, and improvising, all of which will prepare you for getting out and playing at Bluegrass sessions and concerts of your own.
Ben Duff has played and taught banjo for 12 years and been a music teacher since 1989! He will provide you with plenty of standard banjo tips and tricks, plus some that he has invented, discovered, or been taught by others over the years.
Bring your banjo, let's tune up, and let's get banjoing!
You will need to bring a 5-string banjo with you to this class.
Suitable for banjo (5-string) players with one year or more experience of popular 5-string banjo styles - Scruggs, melodic style and single-string.
Please get in touch if you have any additional needs that would be helpful for us to know about, and we will try to arrange adjustments for you to better access the workshop. Latecomer
If a course has already started, please call the office as it may be possible to join after the start date. This may only be possible if the course is not already full, if it is not disruptive for the other students and you are aware that you have missed a percentage of the course and the tutor will not have time to catch you up. This will be at discretion of the Folk House. We run our courses termly, so it might be best to start at the beginning of the course.
