Courses description

Exploring big ideas are increasingly a necessary way to make your stand up stand out. In this workshop you will gain confidence to stand out and answer the following questions. How do you mix something silly with something serious? How do you mix the anecdotal with the theoretical? Which joke structures mimic formal arguments how are you already using them without knowing it? How do you include people in the joke with knowledge of a concept while not losing those who are unfamiliar? How do you structure a 1-hour show differently to shorter sets? This workshop is run by Alex Farrow who is host and producer at the award-winning Jericho Comedy (Chortle Top 6 comedy night in the UK 2019). Jericho produces shows such as Stand-up Philosophy Oxford, Stand-up History and Stand-up literature with sell-out shows in the 600 seat Oxford Museum of Natural History as well as comedy clubs around the UK. Alex's most recent solo show 'Philosophy A-Level' had a sell-out run at the Edinburgh 2019 and his new hour 'Philosophy Pig' is on course for a sell-out at 2021 Edinburgh Fringe Festival. He was featured in BBC Radio 4's Comedy Club Extra. These workshops are run in conjunction with our new monthly comedy nights run by Caspers Comedy Club https://linktr.ee/CapersComedyClub
