This is a short beginners course in representational painting, using acrylic paints. We will start by copying a simple landscape painting, and you will be guided through each step. On the way we will look at colour relationships and learn colour mixing. For your second painting you will be given a choice of subject and style. Please refer to the materials list.
Please bring the following:
Acrylic paints:
Black
Titanium white
Lemon yellow
Cadmium yellow deep
Cadmium red
Alizarin crimson or Magenta or Purple
Ultramarine blue
Phthalo or Winsor or Cerulean blue
Raw Umber
Phthalo or Viridian green
Brushes for acrylics or oils:
(not watercolour brushes, which are too soft)
-A couple of pointed round nylon or synthetic-fiber brushes (about 2mm and 4mm in diameter)
-A couple of flat hog-hair brushes (about 7 to15mm wide)
-A brush about 0.75 inch wide (20mm) - an ordinary house-painting brush, or hog-hair brush.
Acrylic or Oil Painting Sketch Pad (an A3 size or 16 x 12 inch)
A palette - the Folk House provides palettes but they are not white anymore! so you might prefer to bring a white plate.
-A pencil and eraser
-Overall or old shirt.

Please note: All 10, and 12 week courses have a half term break in the middle. For term dates please visit our Contact us page. We are not open on bank holiday Mondays and any class that falls on these days will be made up at the end of term.

Latecomer
If a course has already started, please call the office as it may be possible to join after the start date. This may only be possible if the course is not already full, if it is not disruptive for the other students and you are aware that you have missed a percentage of the course and the tutor will not have time to catch you up. This will be at discretion of the Folk House. We run our courses termly, so it might be best to start at the beginning of the course.
