Courses description

'What do you stand on such high legs for?' D. H. Lawrence asks of the mosquito in his poem. This workshop will delve into the differently-scaled world of insects, as we consider the lives of ants, wasps, stag beetles, stick insects, ladybirds, and more, seeking to capture the movement and behaviour of different creatures in poetry. Inspired by writers including Fiona Benson, Katharine Towers, and Ella Duffy, we will tune in to the minutiae of insect life and connect more deeply with the natural world. Creative exercises, prompts, and discussion will assist our poetic explorations.
