Over the duration of this course you will learn the historic processes of gum bichromate & cyanotype printing. Gum Bichromate uses Gum Arabic, watercolour and a sensitizer and is an extremely painterly way of building up a photographic image with thin layers of colour and tone. Cyanotype is a relatively simple photographic process that results in a deep prussian blue image. It is one of the easier alternative photographic processes and is a great introduction to alternative photography. The two techniques can be combined to create remarkably beautiful images.
Students need to email the darkroom 3 -4 decent res images (1mb or upwards pic from phone or camera, the tutor will choose 2 that will fit the process). Please send at least a week in advance of the course start date. The email to send your images to is: firstname.lastname@example.org
Please put the course code and/ or course name in the subject of you email. Thank you
Please note: All 10, 8 and 12 week courses have a half term break in the middle. For term dates please visit our ‘Contact us’ page. We are not open on bank holiday Monday’s and any class that falls on these days will be made up at the end of term.
Please see full terms and conditions for more information.
If a course has already started please call the office as it may be possible to join after the start date. This may only be possible if the course is not already full, if it is not disruptive for the other students and you are aware that you have missed a percentage of the course and the tutor will not have time to catch you up. This will be at discretion of the Folk House. We run our courses termly, so it might be best to start at the beginning of the course.
