Courses description

The first Saturday of this course begins with a brief introduction to fabrics, cutting and hand stitching, including, for example, learning how to hem a garment. This is followed by learning how to operate a sewing machine effectively and safely. You will get to grips with some essential machine techniques like making seams neatly, turning corners and even setting in a zip. Towards the end of the afternoon there will be time to cut out and sew a drawstring bag to hold your sewing equipment and the samples you have created. We will also plan the second Saturday afternoon's special project.

The morning of the second half of the workshop will be devoted to acquiring further skills on the sewing machine and to understanding the sewing instructions provided with commercial patterns. The afternoon will be spent completing the project planned at the end of the first week, and for which you will have obtained your own fabric and ideas by bravely venturing into a fabric shop.

This is a two day workshop that is spread over two Saturdays, Saturday 20th April and Saturday 11th May.
