Sketching the Peregrine and Kestrel. This workshop celebrates two familiar birds of prey we often see in and around Bristol. We will initially familiarise ourselves with the forms of the birds, learning to produce well-proportioned sketches that capture their characters. We shall then develop a more detailed tonal study using water soluble graphite, enabling us to enhance the bird's three-dimensional form, the texture of the plumage and the opportunity to label key parts of the anatomy and feather groups will provide an excellent starting point into further ornithological study.
Andy's studies of birds, observed locally will be used as reference and the methods and challenges of sketching Birds discussed during the session along with how to strike a balance between first-hand observation in the field and the use of photographic reference. The work of various Bird artists will provide a starting point for further research. It should be a fascinating day of drawing, celebrating these impressive raptors.

Latecomer
If a course has already started, please call the office as it may be possible to join after the start date. This may only be possible if the course is not already full, if it is not disruptive for the other students and you are aware that you have missed a percentage of the course and the tutor will not have time to catch you up. This will be at discretion of the Folk House. We run our courses termly, so it might be best to start at the beginning of the course.
