This is an introductory course for new or practised writers who are interested in writing for the screen with an emphasis on the workings of the screen industries.
You will learn about writing memorable characters, plot, genre, script formatting, dialogue, audio-visual storytelling, and structure. Participants will be able to develop their initial ideas through writing exercises in a supportive environment, free to share work-in-progress for constructive feedback in a friendly atmosphere. As well as learning how to construct a viable screenplay, students will be acquainted with presentation "pitching" skills to give their projects the best chance of eventually getting made into films or TV shows.
By the end of the course, learners will have a good grasp of the fundamentals of writing for the screen and be encouraged to deliver a brief pitch of their project in class.
A notebook, pen and/or laptop for taking notes and writing exercises.

Latecomer
If a course has already started, please call the office as it may be possible to join after the start date. This may only be possible if the course is not already full, if it is not disruptive for the other students and you are aware that you have missed a percentage of the course and the tutor will not have time to catch you up. This will be at discretion of the Folk House. We run our courses termly, so it might be best to start at the beginning of the course.
