Balfolk basics dance workshop 19:15
Bal starts 20:15
BalFolk Bristol are delighted to welcome two outstanding musicians in the Belgian folk scene, on their European tour launching their respective solo albums.
Hartwin Dhoore (Trio Dhoore, Estbel) has been roaming international stages as a professional musician since 2015. Inspired by traditional European music, Hartwin has crafted his own style. Hartwin's first solo album, 'Waterman', includes ten sets of melodies played in a delicate but touching way. The honest and calming tunes on this album reflect the symbiosis of Hartwin and his melodeon; a result of playing and creating music for many years. A "less is more" album well worth discovering. Hartwin’s second solo album, ‘Valge Vagus’ is due for release in October 2021.
Geronimo is the solo project of Jeroen Geerinck (Snaarmaarwaar, Hot Griselda, Spilar). He is a musician and record producer active in the Belgian folk scene. Jeroen is mostly known for adding a signature style of energetic playing to the sound of the bands that he plays in. As a record producer and studio engineer he also has a great deal of experience in creating folk albums and always looks to mix in new flavors. ‘Geronimo' is a like playground where he can take the experiment of mixing genres further than ever since it is a solo project, and no compromises are needed. His new album 'Run High' is packed with pure melodies, fine rhythms; delicate fingerpicking, and folky shredding.
A bal is the European version of a ceilidh. Most of the dances are in couples rather than sets and are easy to pick up as you go. We’ll be running a beginners dance workshop at the start of the evening to show you everything you need to get out on the dance floor.
Tickets are available online, over the phone or in person.
