Margaret Crump’s illustrated talk on the life of scientist James Cowles Prichard traces his childhood in wartime Bristol, his life as a hard-working physician and some of his contributions to the developing sciences.  Her James Cowles Prichard of the Red Lodge: A Life of Science during the Age of Improvement (University of Nebraska Press, June, 2025), is as much a history of our city as it is of this great Bristolian.
