Shepton Churchyard, 2025
Made during a residency in a disused shop on Shepton Mallet's high street, Sophie Sherwood gathered autumnal leaves to create a translucent artwork using the Phytogram technique. This technique requires homemade chemistry, poly phenols from plant matter, and light to create impressions on to photographic film. This film was salvaged from a university skip by Bandele Iyapo, passed on to Wendy Leocque, and finally found itself residing with Sophie Sherwood. It is believed to be infrared film used during WWII to take aerial shots in helicopters over the battlefields.
