Since the advent of analogue photography, animal gelatines have been used as the binding agent in silver emulsions used for film formats and darkroom paper. As we enter an era of increased awareness of environmental crisis and the rights of nonhuman beings, the demand for plant-based alternatives has soared.
This workshop will cover making your own vegan, cow-free silver emulsion suitable for coating on different materials. From making the emulsion, to coating it, and then exposing and developing - this session will give participants the knowledge to make their own plant-based silver emulsion for a variety of photographic applications.
Experience level: No previous darkroom experience necessary.
When: Wednesday 3rd September, 3.00 -6.00pm.
Where: Bristol Folk House Darkroom, 40a Park St, Bristol BS1 5JG.
Teachers: Edd Carr
