FOLKHOUSE PRIDE EXHIBITION: A CELEBRATION | Thursday 21st August Doors: 6:30pm Performances from 7:30pm

Join us for a night of flowing words and crafted lyricism as we bring the Folkhouse Summer Queer Art exhibition to a close. 

Featuring two headliners — the impeccable Aish Humphries and the inimitable Edson Burton — expect a night of queer poetry surrounded by the brilliant artwork featured in our Pride open call, and of course an open mic with an warm invitation to get involved. 

The celebration will be hosted by notoriously queer poet Tom Denbigh, tickets are free, with an option to donate, and all proceeds will go directly to Mermaids. A little more about our headliners:

Aish Humpries

Aish is a poet, theatre maker and host from Cornwall, living in Bristol. He is a host at Satellite of Love, a co-producer of the queer poetry special for Lyra Festival and was a Young Curator with MAYK for Mayfest 2024.

His first poetry pamphlet, Saints of Golden Hour was released in February 2023 which explores soberness, girlhood, queer relationships and the gods we create for ourselves. He is currently collaborating on the production of the spoken word theatre show, Girlhood in T which explores transness, masculinity and friendship.

Edson Burton

Dr Edson Burton is a prolific writer of audio, live drama and poetry.

Edson won the 2025 Tinniswood Prize for Man Friday an adaption of Daniel Defoe’s Robinson Crusoe.

His previous audio dramas include the acclaimed R4 series Deacon starring Don Warrington.

Recent live work includes the listening journey Duppy Hunter produced by Tamasha Theatre, and the theatrical promenade Destination Old Market

He is the author of the poetry collections, Seasoned and Witness.

He is a member of Writers Mosaic the film collective Come the Revolution, a board member of Lyra poetry festival and Afrika Eye film festival.
