Bristol Folk Festival are proud to present Opa Rosa and Fritillaries.
OPA ROSA
Fast gaining a reputation as one of Bristol’s most energetic, virtuosic bands, Opa Rosa are
steeped in the Klezmer, Balkan, Greek and Roma traditions.
With decades of study between them, the quintet capture the joy and sorrow of traditional
Eastern European music, adding their own pulsing contemporary twist.
Violin, clarinet, accordion, double bass and percussion intertwine to create grooving rhythms,
soaring melodies and rich, nuanced harmonic structures.
Following the release of debut album; A Feast from the East; Opa Rosa have toured
internationally, captivating audiences with their high-energy performances. Recent gigs include
sold-out shows at Bristol Beacon, Green Note (London), The Cornish Bank (Falmouth), Jamboree
(London) and festivals, including Secret Garden Party.
Let Opa Rosa lead you on a fiery foot-stomping journey through the Balkans and beyond!
FRITILLARIES
Fritillaries is the project of folk/Americana songwriter Hannah Pawson, a Bristol-based
performer that counts Cerys Matthews amongst her growing fanbase.
Original and engaging Fritillaries intertwine Americana instrumentation, English folk roots and a
pop sensibility. Recent songs have their hands in the soil, taking a compassionate look at the
shadowy parts of ourselves.
Nominated by FATEA for their self-titled debut, ‘Fritillaries’ have been played on BBC Radio
6, Radio 2 and feature extensively on Folk Radio UK.
