Bex Gilbert is a freelance illustrator and communications specialist who understands the most powerful stories often begin where words fail. With a professional background in journalism and charity communications, Bex spent years mastering the art of storytelling through the written word before a pivotal shift during the pandemic. By integrating drawing into her daily practice, she discovered a transformative way to organise complex emotions and information—a journey documented in her self-published lockdown diary, One Day At A Time, and her graphic novel in progress - Story of my Life (with ADHD), which was recently long-listed for The First Graphic Novel Award (run by the Comic Museum and publisher Self Made Hero).
As an artist who now specialises in illustrating live at events, and an educator focussed on helping more people use drawing as a tool for mental health and wellbeing, Bex brings a unique perspective shaped by her own neurodiversity and mental health journey. She views journaling not just as an artistic endeavor, but as a vital tool for navigating a world that can often feel overwhelming. Her work is rooted in the belief that "expert by experience" is a title we all have claim to. Bex has created a workshop space that is empathetic, structured and allows each participant to explore and settle on a journaling practice that is right and useful for them.
Bex is not teaching any courses right now.
