About the Workshop
This women-centred photography workshop invites you to explore presence, self-expression, and agency. Through guided creative exercises, movement, and reflection, you will use photography as a tool to reclaim how you are seen, honour your body and story, and explore visibility on your own terms. The day blends indoor and outdoor activities designed to be playful, reflective, and empowering.
Photography and Creative Exploration
This is not a technical photography workshop. The focus is on self-expression, presence, and storytelling. Participants will bring a phone or digital camera to explore light, shadow, movement, and perspective, using photography as a tool to capture moments that reflect their story and presence. You will have space to move freely, notice gestures, experiment with framing, and engage creatively with the world around you.
About the Facilitator The workshop is led by Cathy Spence, a photographer with a background in mental health and wellbeing. Trained as an occupational therapist and formerly a teacher, Cathy brings experience in guiding people safely, creatively, and empathetically. Drawing on her love of improvisation, movement, and self-expression, she creates a supportive and inclusive environment for women, including trans and non-binary participants, to explore presence, agency, and visibility.

Latecomer
If a course has already started, please call the office as it may be possible to join after the start date. This may only be possible if the course is not already full, if it is not disruptive for the other students and you are aware that you have missed a percentage of the course and the tutor will not have time to catch you up. This will be at discretion of the Folk House. We run our courses termly, so it might be best to start at the beginning of the course.
