Harmonicas are an easy instrument to start playing from scratch. You simply hold your harmonica, then on a basic level gently breath in and out to play it. This in itself is very calming. It can also be held in a harmonica holder worn on your neck (like Bob Dylan) so you do not need to hold it in your hands. It is so easy.
Harmonica is a marvellous instrument to get anyone playing calming repetitive pieces. This will be for absolute beginners who need a bit of calmness in life. It is very relaxing, helping with focus and gives you a real sense of achievement and wellbeing.
Your tutor Aidan Sheehan (Harmonica UK Outreach Programme Officer) has taught such classes and groups with ex-military personnel at military barracks, at Hereford Mind (seven years) and with other such groups. This workshop is different to the other harmonica courses Aidan has delivered at Bristol Folk House as it is not focused on learning tunes. Come along and find out for yourselves.
Bring along your own key of C diatonic harmonica (aka a "Blues Harp") and away we go. You do not have to read music. HARMONICA TAB is supplied - it is ideal for beginners, improvers, intermediates. Enjoy!
Student testimonials:
Aidan, thank you so much for a brilliant course! It will be the highlight of my year for sure.
I must shake your hand Aidan. That was marvellous. You are the most non-pedantic music teacher I have ever had. You make it fun. I have learned so much.
You kept everyone smiling. Humour is a great way to learn. It takes the pressure away. Thanks.

Latecomer
If a course has already started, please call the office as it may be possible to join after the start date. This may only be possible if the course is not already full, if it is not disruptive for the other students and you are aware that you have missed a percentage of the course and the tutor will not have time to catch you up. This will be at discretion of the Folk House. We run our courses termly, so it might be best to start at the beginning of the course.
