Courses description

Learn to play the Italian ocarina, a ceramic wind instrument most known for its 'pure' or 'ethereal' tone. Ocarinas, while simple, are capable instruments that can be used for playing everything from lyrical melodies to high-tempo dance tunes.

This workshop assumes no prior experience with the ocarina and will introduce you to holding the instrument, breath control, hearing intonation, learning the fingering system, and practicing finger transitions. By the end you'll be playing a simple folk tune.

This will be taught both using sheet music and by ear. Some prior experience with playing other musical instruments would be helpful.

The workshop will be taught using Alto G ocarinas, and instruments will be available to borrow. You can bring your own instrument if you wish but it must be in G and be tuned properly.

Please note that 4 / 6 hole 'English pendant' ocarinas will not work for this workshop. Also note that as we are using the tutor's instruments, it isn't suitable for people who vape or smoke unless you have your own instrument.
