This one-day workshop is designed for emerging and novice writers who want to approach social media with clarity, purpose, and confidence without letting it overwhelm their creative practice. Blending industry insight with lived experience, the workshop is led by an experienced communications professional and published author, offering a rare perspective from both sides of the writing and promotion process.
Participants will explore how to use social media as a supportive tool rather than a constant distraction. Through a mix of open discussion, real-world case studies, and practical exercises, the day focuses on building a sustainable and strategic approach tailored to individual goals.
Key topics include choosing the right platforms (and confidently ignoring the rest), developing an authentic author presence without unnecessary personal exposure, and transforming creative work into engaging, shareable content without compromising its integrity. The workshop also demystifies algorithms, helping writers make informed decisions without feeling pressured to chase trends.
A strong emphasis is placed on protecting writing time, with practical systems to ensure social media enhances rather than interrupts creative flow. Participants will also consider how to foster genuine community and connection, moving beyond visibility metrics to more meaningful engagement.
By the end of the day, writers will leave with a clear, manageable approach to social media that aligns with their creative priorities and long-term ambitions.

Latecomer
If a course has already started, please call the office as it may be possible to join after the start date. This may only be possible if the course is not already full, if it is not disruptive for the other students and you are aware that you have missed a percentage of the course and the tutor will not have time to catch you up. This will be at discretion of the Folk House. We run our courses termly, so it might be best to start at the beginning of the course.
