Ever wondered where Pilates came from? Who developed it as a movement method? Originally called Contrology and developed as a whole mind and body method to go through life with greater ease, the original 34 mat repertoire developed over time in the early twentieth century by Joseph Pilates and taught as an integral part of the Pilates method.
In this workshop we will explore each of the 34 moves, in the order Joseph intended them to be performed. We will work up to performing each move in full so you experience how each was intended, however there will be modifications given and small equipment used to find a way into the movements. This is a fantastic opportunity to explore moves we do not normally do in class such as Control Balance, Boomerang and Crab, why are they in the 34? What was the intention behind them?
Bring a sense of curiosity, openness and fun to learn why we return to the 34 mat repertoire, and why Pilates is still such a popular exercise methodology today.
This is not a remedial Pilates class so if you are unsure if Pilates is suitable for you please consult with your GP before enrolling. We politely ask you to provide your own yoga mat if you have one. If you do not we also have them available at the Folk House. Please bring your own water bottle, water is also available from the Cafe.
Please get in touch if you have any additional needs that would be helpful for us to know about, and we will try to arrange adjustments for you to better access the workshop. If you need to bring a carer with you, please let us know in advance so we can ensure there is enough space. Email us on admin@bristolfolkhouse.co.uk or call us on 01179262987.
Please note: All 10, and 12 week courses have a half term break in the middle. For term dates please visit our Contact us page. We are not open on bank holiday Mondays and any class that falls on these days will be made up at the end of term.

Latecomer
If a course has already started, please call the office as it may be possible to join after the start date. This may only be possible if the course is not already full, if it is not disruptive for the other students and you are aware that you have missed a percentage of the course and the tutor will not have time to catch you up. This will be at discretion of the Folk House. We run our courses termly, so it might be best to start at the beginning of the course.
