Courses description

In this workshop, we will create brand-new poems from old words - cutting, rearranging, and reimagining text from existing publications. It is a relaxed, playful way to uncover surprising themes and fresh ideas in your writing. It is a useful way of working, if you are new to writing or do not consider yourself to be a writer or are an experienced writer.

Fra will share her collage-poetry zines, made from withdrawn library books and discontinued magazines, before guiding you through a series of gentle, imaginative exercises. You will experiment with short poems, collaborate with others, and gradually piece together a longer collage poem by the end of the session.

No writing experience is needed. All materials are provided, including a rich selection of books and magazines to cut, remix, and transform into your own poetic collages.

Students will be encouraged to share their work with the group but not required if they prefer not to. Cutting up sentences from books does need a certain level of dexterity.
