Courses description

Over the course, you will learn the techniques involved in making a patchwork quilt; cutting and sewing fabrics to make quilt blocks of different designs, machine and hand applique; and learning how to finish the quilt by layering it up, quilting and binding it.

Alongside learning the practical skills involved in making a quilt, the tutor Rachel encourages a conversation about quilts' long, unique and shifting history as both objects of necessity and expressions of creativity.

Some previous sewing experience is a bonus. If you've not used a sewing machine in a long time, then it might be helpful to familiarise yourself with threading one up and sewing before the course. If you are new to sewing /don't have access to a sewing machine, but are ready to pick up skills as you go along and excited to make a quilt, then please join.
