If you are new to making pottery, this course is ideal for you.
For 8 weeks of the course, through directed projects, you will design, make, decorate and glaze several types of hand-built decorative and useful pots, in a creative and supportive environment. You will learn the foundational hand-building and decoration techniques such as coiling, pinching, carving-out, slab-work, and slip-work. In the later end of the course you will receive an introduction to the ancient and mindful craft of throwing on the potters wheel.
You will have 4 weeks on the wheel, supported with expert guidance on how to make basic shapes such as cylinders and bowls, how to add foot rings and surface texture design.
By the end of the course you will have a collection of beautiful and unique pots to take home as well as a comprehensive understanding of clay mechanics, and be able to progress to an improver, more self-directed level, if you wish to continue on your pottery journey.

Latecomer
If a course has already started, please call the office as it may be possible to join after the start date. This may only be possible if the course is not already full, if it is not disruptive for the other students and you are aware that you have missed a percentage of the course and the tutor will not have time to catch you up. This will be at discretion of the Folk House. We run our courses termly, so it might be best to start at the beginning of the course.
