Have you always wanted to try using the Potter's wheel? This is a great chance to see how it is for you. In this three-part taster workshop, you will get an introduction into the craft of throwing on the wheel. In session one, you will see a demonstration from your tutor before being unleashed onto your own wheel. You will be guided attentively through making basic shapes such as bowls and cylinders. In session two, your pots will be ready for refining. This is when you will be taught all basic methods and the skills of turning / trimming your pots.
On the final day you will be taught about what glazes are and how they are applied. We have a wide variety of beautiful stoneware glazes, oxides and underglazes to offer for you to get creative with, while having expert guidance throughout to ensure you achieve the best finished result on your creations as possible. Your pots will be fired and ready to collect at a later date. Beginners and Improvers are welcome.
This course will run on the following three dates:
Session 1 - 22nd July: throwing
Session 2 - 29th July: turning

Latecomer
If a course has already started, please call the office as it may be possible to join after the start date. This may only be possible if the course is not already full, if it is not disruptive for the other students and you are aware that you have missed a percentage of the course and the tutor will not have time to catch you up. This will be at discretion of the Folk House. We run our courses termly, so it might be best to start at the beginning of the course.
