Ever fancied writing a novel but the mere thought feels overwhelming? Got an idea and do not know how to build on it? Then come along and discover what novelists are buzzing about - how and why you should write your novel from the middle!
As John Mortimer once said: "The novelist has a duty which he must perform before he starts illuminating the human condition. He must entertain the audience." We will look at how beginning from the middle of your story can energise your writing and help you find the heart of your narrative. Using examples from feature-length films, we will explore transferable skills to bring shape, pace, and focus to your work.
Whether you have already started a novel or are just thinking about it, this course will give you the tools and confidence to move forward. And who knows - you might even end up writing a story that is ripe for film adaptation!
By the end of the course, you will have a stronger grasp of story structure and practical techniques to develop your novel with confidence.
Tutor: Rosemary Dun, published novelist, MA in Creative Writing, and university lecturer in creative writing.

Latecomer
If a course has already started, please call the office as it may be possible to join after the start date. This may only be possible if the course is not already full, if it is not disruptive for the other students and you are aware that you have missed a percentage of the course and the tutor will not have time to catch you up. This will be at discretion of the Folk House. We run our courses termly, so it might be best to start at the beginning of the course.
