Drawing on new ideas is a 6 week course led by Phil Goss exploring ways to enrich our drawing practice.
Sessions will mix rigorous exercises based on observation and experimentation with exposure to ideas from different art forms. Each week will focus on a different aspect of drawing such as mark-making, composition, space, texture and colour. The sessions will involve experiments with ink, mono printing, collage and many more processes. Materials will include charcoal, ink, printing inks and pens.
During the course you will experiment with processes that will help unlock new methods of depicting the subject in interesting and original ways. We will use different exercises and materials to expand our personal drawing language.
Each session will start with a printed handout looking at a certain technique or idea and how artists use this to different effects. There will also be source imagery provided to work from in the hand out although as much as possible will involve drawing from life. There will be a live model for at least one day.
Suitable for beginners or people who are striving to enrich their drawing practice with fresh ideas and new methods.

Latecomer
If a course has already started, please call the office as it may be possible to join after the start date. This may only be possible if the course is not already full, if it is not disruptive for the other students and you are aware that you have missed a percentage of the course and the tutor will not have time to catch you up. This will be at discretion of the Folk House. We run our courses termly, so it might be best to start at the beginning of the course.
